Loud Blasts and Plumes of Smoke Witnessed in Central Tehran
As per on-the-ground reports, two loud blasts were audible in Tehran on Saturday. Correspondingly, columns of dense smoke were observed billowing over the centre and east of the Iranian capital.
“The nature of these blasts indicates that this is a strike involving missiles,” one news agency stated, without initially provide additional information.
Background: Rising Tensions and Recent Events
The incident occurs against a backdrop of severely escalated strains in the region. Key developments leading up to this attack include:

- Nuclear Talks: Recent discussions between the United States and Iran on Tehran's nuclear programme concluded without a deal, with indications of further discussions scheduled.
- Public Statements: Prior to the strike, a senior US official had labeled Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and delivered warnings regarding its missile program.
- Diplomatic Deadline: Allegedly, a deadline of 10 to 15 days had been presented to Iran to resolve the atomic standoff or face serious repercussions.
Reaction from Tehran
In response to earlier allegations, Iranian authorities had charged the US of spreading “big lies” about its defensive capabilities. They dismissed claims about weapons development and protest deaths as unfounded.
